Welcome Welcome Welcome… To our little harvest of bountiful optimism, motivation, wisdom, insight, and joy. That’s right. We’re here in Faith’s Garden of INspiration for our supernatural "Weleful Wednesday" boost - an organic serving of pure encouragement.
It’s no surprise that we are already on the 5th day of Fall. Besides winter, fall is my ultimate favorite time of year. I so look forward to the coolness in the air and all the natural transactions and transitions that take place in the environment and to the nature all around us. The leaves changing colors and falling from the trees, the cheers in the stands from the touchdown scored on the field, the festivals that feature so many delicious fall time meals, the t.v. shows that return after a warm summer break, the holidays that bring families and friends together, and back in the day it was the definite traditional sign of school being back in full session. What I’d like to propose to us all, as the Fall season kicks off, is that we consider how we too can Fall into Fall. YES! YES! YES! We most definitely can. Here are just few ways how… Let’s Fall deeper into being compassionate and displaying random acts of kindness Let’s Fall deeper into providing positive outlets for our youth, for being their backbone, for being their mentors, for being there when they need our sound judgement, for being genuine advocates of their innocence and their futures Let’s Fall deeper into family unity, solidarity, and comradery Let’s Fall deeper into respecting the black man that protects, provides, promotes, educates, and advocates Let’s Fall deeper into getting an understanding and bringing about positive change not just for a moment but for the rest of time Let’s Fall deeper into the commitment of executing our plan to achieve our next level of #GREATERNESS Let’s Fall deeper into bringing about greater peace, greater joy, and greater love by supporting others, giving to others, speaking a kind word to a stranger, sharing a meal with the man living on the bus stop bench, being a shoulder to lean not just in the time of need but in the time of silence Let’s Fall deeper into learning something new each day not just about this world or this life but about ourselves Let’s Fall deeper into lifting one another up and speaking life into those situations that appear to have us burdened down Let’s Fall deeper into pursuing our mission, embracing our purpose, and fulfilling our destiny Let’s Fall deeper into walking in our Victoriousness Let’s Fall deeper into the studies of the Word of God and exhibiting his characteristics Let’s Fall deeper into being submissive to the will and the way of God Let’s Fall deeper into giving God the glory through our praise and our intimate worship Let’s Fall deeper in spreading the gospel and proclaiming Jesus as our Lord and Saviour Let’s Fall deeper into being led by the Holy Spirit So, I say to us… Let’s Fall deeper into Fall Now, be sure to share with us how you’re going to Fall deeper into Fall in the comment section below. Hello Everyone and Welcome to “Weleful Wednesday” our favorite little meeting place on Wednesdays’ as well as any other day of the week. It’s an extraordinary moment in which we can unwind yet intertwine with the right mixture of a nutritious blend of optimism, faith, power, courage, wisdom, determination, and motivation. Quite portentous if I must say so myself.
Ok. Wait!!! Did somebody say anxiety??? That emotion, that feeling, that uncomfortable unbalance that almost 18% of the population deals with on any given day! I recently presented to a small group on this very topic and thought I’d share some of this valuable and practical information with you. First and foremost, anxiety is far more common than many of us have come to realize. How we conquer it and overcome it has become a fight that we must be willing to partake in and stay strong to the end. While there is no direct one cause of anxiety there are some common factors that contribute to an individual experiencing anxiety. Some of those include but are not limited to: trauma, genetic traits, substance abuse, ongoing stress, and other medical and mental conditions. The most astounding news is that IT CAN BE DEFEATED!!! It takes tremendous effort and perseverance yet it can be done. We must first understand the tremendous benefits of acknowledging if we or someone know battles with anxiety. For some, treatment may include therapy, counseling, or medication or a combination of the three. While for others, it may be just one of the three previously mentioned along with the daily implementation of specific techniques and strategies. Some of the benefits gained is a better quality of life overall, a healthier body, the ability to identify certain triggers, the power to re-channel negative thoughts, and to manage life much better on a day to day basis. Generally when one is experiencing high levels of anxiety they experience a high level of sweats, shortness of breath, difficulty focusing, muscle tension/aches, stomach problems, and/or lack of sleep. Not to mention an increase in headaches, social isolation, and debilitation. For these reasons we must be proactive about conquering this form of mental illness whether it’s for ourselves or for our loved ones. For our loved ones we must exhibit patience, support, and compassion. So, if you or someone you know battles with anxiety here are just a few suggestions that I gathered from Psychology Today, AltaMed, and the Mayo Clinic… While in the moment:
On a daily basis:
Anxiety comes in many forms and on a variety of levels. Each and every one of us has had experiences with “normal” anxiety at one point or another on this journey called life. One key is to recognize when it’s becoming overbearing, overtaking, or overwhelming. The other key is to seek professional help (which includes King Jesus) and then develop and implement a plan that is suitable for you. Be sure to share your thoughts in the comment section below. How many of you remember Polaroid cameras? Ok, how many of you remember disposable cameras? And how many of you have been through a period in your life when you or someone you knew took way too many pictures of themselves… it’s what we now call selfies? Come on think about it for 31 seconds – close your eyes and think back to Junior High or High School and visualize that one person who was constantly in need of a “selfie”. Can you picture that person? OK. Maybe that person was a family member or a friend on the block or the neighbor on either side of you. Can you picture that person? So, I pose this question… What’s behind aaalllll the selfies? Could be nothing or it could be something. I want to take this opportunity to share with you something I did not even realize until years later on this journey called life. I was once one of those people. Yes. That person that would take my allowance to go buy cameras and out of the 36 film 26 were mostly of me. No. Not because I thought I was all that or because I loved looking at myself or because I had autographs to distribute but because I was looking for something in the pictures. Remember, at the time I did not realize it but what I came to realize later on is that I was searching for some inner peace, inner reassurance, inner joy, inner confidence, inner strength to radiate through those pictures. I actually thought that the more pictures I took the better I would feel about what was going on in my life at the time if I could see the qualities I mentioned earlier in the pictures. But all I kept doing was taking more and more and more and more and more pictures. Many of you are parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, guardians, etc. to youth between the ages of 12 to 18 years of age. Please understand I am not saying this applies to everyone in that age bracket but I am saying, from personal experience, to be mindful; to take a moment to examine the lives of those around you. If your child bites their nails, overworks themselves, stress eats, mediates on things they do not need to or things that cannot be changed, fixates on the negative, withdraws, lacks the ability to express themselves or to engage in a healthy conversation without getting frustrated, irritated, disappointed, etc. yet they are self-absorbed in taking selfies there may be something at the root that needs to be addressed. Then again, it could be absolutely nothing at all. I will say this; while few studies have been conducted to examine this concept of “selfies” and the possible underlining meanings that could be associated with the phenomenon it is a topic worth exploring and considering particularly with our youth ages 12 to 18 years of age. In many cases it could be an indicator of positive high self-esteem or a healthy way to communicate and engage with others or it could also very well be an indicator for a cry for help or possibly other psychological, emotional, or social challenges that may need to be addressed. Some studies have linked too many “selfies” to forms of narcissism, psychopathy, self-esteem, subjective conformity, and self-objectification; just to name a few. Once again these are just my thoughts… While I have read up on the matter and discovered some interesting conclusions there definitely appears to be room for further research. So, let us know what you think. Be sure to share your thoughts in the comment section below. Come on and see for yourself… ******************************************************************* Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift. – Oprah Winfrey Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. – Harriet Tubman Greatness occurs when your children love you, when your critics respect you and when you have peace of mind. – Quincy Jones No one should negotiate their dreams. Dreams must be free to flee and fly high. No government, no legislature, has a right to limit your dreams. You should never agree to surrender your dreams. – Jesse Jackson “Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping its dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air.
